The Leon Lowenstein Foundation
Since 2017, Stewart has been the Executive Director of the Leon Lowenstein Foundation, a family foundation with a grantmaking program in support improving health equity through scaling up the availability of Mobile Healthcare in the U.S. in both rural and urban areas. Stewart began his career as a senior legislative aide to U.S. Senator Lowell Weicker covering a range of budget, health, and small business subject areas. He then served at a senior level with leading non-profits including the National Wildlife Federation and the National Audubon Society. He was Executive Director of the Jane Goodall Institute U.S. and then served as President of the Emily Hall Tremaine Foundation from 2001-2013. During his career he has served on a variety of boards across a range of subject areas including education, health, the arts, and the environment. He has worked in the U.S., and on projects in Latin America, Europe and Africa. He holds a degree in history from Yale University and masters degree in International Development from American University.
