Joy H. Lewis, DO, PhD is a Professor of Public Health and Internal Medicine and chairs the ATSU-SOMA Department of Public Health. She directs the National Center for Community Health Research (in collaboration with NACHC) and SOMA Research. She specializes in community-based applied research focused on value-based-care, social determinants of health, patient safety and implementation science. She has mentored trainees on over 250 Community Oriented Primary Care projects and led a $2 million 5-year Primary Care Training Enhancement HRSA grant.
Dr. Lewis is a member of the Medicare Evidence Development and Coverage Advisory Committee, providing expert guidance to the CMS. With a background in Quantitative Economics, she was a Financial Analyst at William Blair & Company prior to earning her DO from the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine and Internal Medicine training at the University of Chicago.
Board certified by the ABIM and a Fellow of the ACP, Dr. Lewis is a former Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar, National Research Service Award recipient, and UCLA STAR Fellow. She holds a PhD in health services from UCLA and is certified by McMaster to teach evidence-based-clinical-practice. She conducted research at UCLA and RAND Health and practiced rural Internal Medicine in Jackson, Wyoming.
