Alfonso Apu is the Chief Behavioral Health Officer at Community Medical Centers, Inc. (CMC). Community Medical Centers is the largest Federally Qualified Health Center in San Joaquin County, providing integrated services to over 114,000 patients in 2 counties. Since becoming director of behavioral health in 2014, and later Chief Behavioral Health Officer in 2021 CMC’s Department of Behavioral Health has grown tremendously and he now manages a staff of 95 which includes licensed clinicians, psychiatrists, psychologist, community health workers, case managers, and substance use disorder addiction specialists. Alfonso has also been instrumental in helping to expand CMC’s behavioral health services developing innovative programs and access in the areas of mental health, substance use disorder and care coordination services at CMC’s 30 centers, CMC’s Recovery Center, Respite Center, local homeless shelter, and school-based counseling services. In addition, he was also instrumental in developing the Care Link Mobile Community Response Program which provided an alternative mental health crisis response to law enforcement with robust care coordination follow-up for residents who experience mental health issues. Alfonso received his Master of Social Work in 2002 from San Jose State University and has been working in the social work field for over 30 years.
